Why buy art online?

More Choice

There is a lot more choice when buying art online rather than from a gallery and you don't have to leave your house!

Galleries often carefully select the style of artists they wish to exhibit, to fit in with their gallery or potential market, so when you go to a gallery you are viewing a selection of the gallery owner's choice. This can be extremely limiting and only gives you a taste of what is on offer.

Cheaper

Paintings are often cheaper when purchased online than in a gallery. Paintings on display in a gallery usually incur a commission markup which the artists have to add on to reflect the privilege of exhibiting in the gallery.

Hints and Tips

It is all too easy to get carried away when shopping online so do research the price range and fix your budget.

You don't get to see the work in real life until you have purchased it – it may not be what you expect.

Help prevent surprises by:

Checking for exhibitions

Check for any artist exhibitions which may be advertised on the website, it may be possible to go and visit the exhibition and see some of the work in person before purchasing it online.

Check exactly what is included in the price

Check what exactly is included in the price, for example my works on paper are detailed as mounted but not framed.

This is to allow you to chose your own frame and also keep painting and delivery costs to a minimum,

Most of my canvas's have painted sides and therefore can be attached to the wall attractively without framing.

Check the dimensions of the painting

Get out the tape measure ensure that you can get a rough idea of how big or small the painting will look on your wall.

Be weary of matching colours

Tthe colours on a computer monitor may vary slightly in real life so don't expect an exact colour match from what you see on the computer screen.

How to choose art for your home

Introduction

Art never fails to be a taking point, it is so personal and that's what makes it so special, so unique, and most of all so exclusive!

Exclusivity comes at a price though, having the only one of something certainly can cost. However my website aims to cater for the smaller budget as well.

 Choosing the right painting

This is very important, art tells guests, friends and family immediately something about you.

Consider:

The colour scheme of the room

The wall space available

The subject or location of the painting (does it hold memories for you?)

Framing the painting

Many of my smaller paintings are framed with a white background and mount. The ideal is to keep the painting the focus and the border as neutral as possible, also allowing you to add your own input for the frame.

I have used no custom sized mounts, they are all standard sizes, so frames should be easy to locate.

How to choose art for someone else

Introduction

Art as a gift can be for a special occasion, here are a handful of examples:

  • Birthday
  • Christmas
  • Wedding and anniversaries
  • Retirement
  • House warming gift

Art is a very personal present and you will need to know that the recipient is going to understand why you have purchased that painting for them.

Style

Think about it – do you really know their artistic tastes?

What style do they like; impressionism, surrealism, realism, cubism?

Image

What image would they like to see; abstract, landscape, cityscape, portrait?

Budget

Consider your budget; cheaper and smaller is safer. Introduce them to that artist, and if they like it they can buy more on their own. Size is not going to matter if they love the painting and you may have just started their art collection!
